Informing the Angels About Adam(AS)

Allah the Almighty revealed: (Chapter2:30-39, Qur'an).

وَإِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي جَاعِلٌ فِي الْأَرْضِ خَلِيفَةً ۖ قَالُوا أَتَجْعَلُ فِيهَا مَن يُفْسِدُ فِيهَا وَيَسْفِكُ الدِّمَاءَ وَنَحْنُ نُسَبِّحُ بِحَمْدِكَ وَنُقَدِّسُ لَكَ ۖ قَالَ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ مَا لَا تَعْلَمُونَ [٢:٣٠]

[bn.hoque] আর স্মরণ কর, -- তোমার প্রভু ফিরিশ্‌তাদের বললেন, “আমি অবশ্যই পৃথিবীতে খলিফা বসাতে যাচ্ছি।” তারা বলল -- “তুমি কি উহাতে এমন কাউকে বসাচ্ছ যে তার মধ্যে ফসাদ সৃষ্টি করবে ও রক্তপাত করবে, অথচ আমরা তোমার স্তুতির গুণগান করছি ও তোমারই পবিত্রতার জয়গান গাইছি।” তিনি বললেন -- “আমি নিঃসন্দেহে তা জানি যা তোমরা জানো না।”		[yusufali] Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I will create a vicegerent on earth." They said: "Wilt Thou place therein one who will make mischief therein and shed blood?- whilst we do celebrate Thy praises and glorify Thy holy (name)?" He said: "I know what ye know not."
﴿٣٠﴾

وَعَلَّمَ آدَمَ الْأَسْمَاءَ كُلَّهَا ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى الْمَلَائِكَةِ فَقَالَ أَنبِئُونِي بِأَسْمَاءِ هَٰؤُلَاءِ إِن كُنتُمْ صَادِقِينَ [٢:٣١]

[bn.hoque] তখন তিনি আদমকে নামাবলী -- তাদের সব-কিছু শিখিয়ে দিলেন, তারপর তিনি ফিরিশ্‌তাদের কাছে তাদের স্থাপন করলেন ও বললেন, -- “আমাকে এই সমস্তের নামাবলী বর্ণনা কর, যদি তোমরা সঠিক হয়ে থাকো।”		[yusufali] And He taught Adam the names of all things; then He placed them before the angels, and said: "Tell me the names of these if ye are right."
﴿٣١﴾

قَالُوا سُبْحَانَكَ لَا عِلْمَ لَنَا إِلَّا مَا عَلَّمْتَنَا ۖ إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْعَلِيمُ الْحَكِيمُ [٢:٣٢]

[bn.hoque] তারা বলল -- “তোমারই সব মহিমা! আমাদের যা শিখিয়েছ তা ছাড়া আমাদের জ্ঞান নেই! নিঃসন্দেহ তুমি নিজেই সর্বজ্ঞাতা, পরমজ্ঞানী।”		[yusufali] They said: "Glory to Thee, of knowledge We have none, save what Thou Hast taught us: In truth it is Thou Who art perfect in knowledge and wisdom."
﴿٣٢﴾

قَالَ يَا آدَمُ أَنبِئْهُم بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ ۖ فَلَمَّا أَنبَأَهُم بِأَسْمَائِهِمْ قَالَ أَلَمْ أَقُل لَّكُمْ إِنِّي أَعْلَمُ غَيْبَ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضِ وَأَعْلَمُ مَا تُبْدُونَ وَمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْتُمُونَ [٢:٣٣]

[bn.hoque] তিনি বললেন -- “হে আদম! এ-সবের নামাবলী এদের কাছে বর্ণনা কর।” তাই সে যখন তাদের কাছে এ-সবের নামাবলী বর্ণনা করল, তিনি বললেন -- “আমি কি তোমাদের বলি নি যে আমি নিশ্চয়ই মহাকাশমন্ডলী ও পৃথিবীর রহস্যসব জানি? আর আমি জানি যা তোমরা প্রকাশ করেছ, আর যা তোমরা লুকিয়ে রেখে চলেছ।”		[yusufali] He said: "O Adam! Tell them their names." When he had told them, Allah said: "Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of heaven and earth, and I know what ye reveal and what ye conceal?"
﴿٣٣﴾

وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لِآدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ أَبَىٰ وَاسْتَكْبَرَ وَكَانَ مِنَ الْكَافِرِينَ [٢:٣٤]

[bn.hoque] আর স্মরণ করো! আমরা ফিরিশ্‌তাদের বললাম -- “আদমের প্রতি সিজদা করো।” সুতরাং তারা সিজদা করল, কিন্তু ইবলিস করলনা, কারণ সে ছিল কাফিরদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত।		[yusufali] And behold, We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam" and they bowed down. Not so Iblis: he refused and was haughty: He was of those who reject Faith.
﴿٣٤﴾

وَقُلْنَا يَا آدَمُ اسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ الْجَنَّةَ وَكُلَا مِنْهَا رَغَدًا حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلَا تَقْرَبَا هَٰذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ [٢:٣٥]

[bn.hoque] আর আমরা বললাম, -- “হে আদম! তুমি ও তোমার সঙ্গিনী এই বাগানে অবস্থান কর, আর সেখান থেকে যখন-যেখানে ইচ্ছা কর ভরপুরভাবে পানাহার কর, কিন্তু এই বৃক্ষের ধারেকাছেও যেও না, নতুবা তোমরা দুরাচারদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়ে যাবে।”		[yusufali] We said: "O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden; and eat of the bountiful things therein as (where and when) ye will; but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression."
﴿٣٥﴾

فَأَزَلَّهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ عَنْهَا فَأَخْرَجَهُمَا مِمَّا كَانَا فِيهِ ۖ وَقُلْنَا اهْبِطُوا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَاعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ [٢:٣٦]

[bn.hoque] কিন্তু শয়তান তাদের সেখান থেকে পদস্খলিত করল, আর যেখানে তারা থাকত সেখান থেকে তাদের বের করে দিল। তখন আমরা বললাম -- “তোমরা অধঃপাতে যাও, তোমাদের কেউ কেউ একে অন্যের শত্রু। আর তোমাদের জন্য পৃথিবীতে আছে জিরানোর স্থান ও কিছু সময়ের সংস্থান।”		[yusufali] Then did Satan make them slip from the (garden), and get them out of the state (of felicity) in which they had been. We said: "Get ye down, all (ye people), with enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood - for a time."
﴿٣٦﴾

فَتَلَقَّىٰ آدَمُ مِن رَّبِّهِ كَلِمَاتٍ فَتَابَ عَلَيْهِ ۚ إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ [٢:٣٧]

[bn.hoque] তখন আদম তার প্রভুর কাছ থেকে কিছু কথা শিখে নিলে, তাই তিনি তার দিকে ফিরলেন। নিঃসন্দেহ তিনি নিজেই সদা ফেরেন, অফুরন্ত ফলদাতা।		[yusufali] Then learnt Adam from his Lord words of inspiration, and his Lord Turned towards him; for He is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.
﴿٣٧﴾

قُلْنَا اهْبِطُوا مِنْهَا جَمِيعًا ۖ فَإِمَّا يَأْتِيَنَّكُم مِّنِّي هُدًى فَمَن تَبِعَ هُدَايَ فَلَا خَوْفٌ عَلَيْهِمْ وَلَا هُمْ يَحْزَنُونَ [٢:٣٨]

[bn.hoque] আমরা বললাম -- “তোমরা সব্বাই মিলে এখান থেকে নেমে পড়ো। কিন্তু যদি তোমাদের কাছে আমার তরফ থেকে হেদায়ত আসে, তবে যারা আমার পথনির্দেশ মেনে চলবে তাদের উপর কিন্তু কোনো ভয় নেই, আর তারা নিজেরা অনুতাপও করবে না।		[yusufali] We said: "Get ye down all from here; and if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from me, whosoever follows My guidance, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
﴿٣٨﴾

وَالَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا وَكَذَّبُوا بِآيَاتِنَا أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ [٢:٣٩]

[bn.hoque] “কিন্তু যারা অবিশ্বাস পোষণ করে ও আমাদের আয়াতসমূহে মিথ্যারোপ করে, তারাই হচ্ছে আগুনের বাসিন্দা, তারা তার মধ্যে থাকবে দীর্ঘকাল।”		[yusufali] "But those who reject Faith and belie Our Signs, they shall be companions of the Fire; they shall abide therein."
﴿٣٩﴾

Almighty Allah also revealed: (Chapter 7:11-25 Qur'an).

وَلَقَدْ خَلَقْنَاكُمْ ثُمَّ صَوَّرْنَاكُمْ ثُمَّ قُلْنَا لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ اسْجُدُوا لِآدَمَ فَسَجَدُوا إِلَّا إِبْلِيسَ لَمْ يَكُن مِّنَ السَّاجِدِينَ [٧:١١]

[bn.hoque] আর নিশ্চয়ই আমরা তোমাদের সৃষ্টি করেছি, তারপর তোমাদের রূপদান করেছি, তারপর ফিরিশ্‌তাদের বললাম -- ''আদমের প্রতি সিজদা করো।’’ কাজেই তারা সিজদা করলো, কিন্তু ইবলীস করলো না সে সিজদাকারীদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হলো না।		[yusufali] It is We Who created you and gave you shape; then We bade the angels prostrate to Adam, and they prostrate; not so Iblis; He refused to be of those who prostrate.
﴿١١﴾

قَالَ مَا مَنَعَكَ أَلَّا تَسْجُدَ إِذْ أَمَرْتُكَ ۖ قَالَ أَنَا خَيْرٌ مِّنْهُ خَلَقْتَنِي مِن نَّارٍ وَخَلَقْتَهُ مِن طِينٍ [٧:١٢]

[bn.hoque] তিনি বললেন -- ''কি তোমাকে বাধা দিয়েছিল যেজন্য তুমি সিজদা করলে না যখন আমি তোমাকে আদেশ করেছিলাম?’’ সে বললে -- ''আমি তার চাইতে শ্রেষ্ঠ, আমাকে তুমি আগুন দিয়ে সৃষ্টি করেছ, আর তাকে তুমি সৃষ্টি করেছ কাদা দিয়ে।’’		[yusufali] (Allah) said: "What prevented thee from prostrating when I commanded thee?" He said: "I am better than he: Thou didst create me from fire, and him from clay."
﴿١٢﴾

قَالَ فَاهْبِطْ مِنْهَا فَمَا يَكُونُ لَكَ أَن تَتَكَبَّرَ فِيهَا فَاخْرُجْ إِنَّكَ مِنَ الصَّاغِرِينَ [٧:١٣]

[bn.hoque] তিনি বললেন -- ''তবে এখানে থেকে রসাতলে যাও, তোমার জন্য নয় যে তুমি এখানে অহংকার করবে। কাজেই বেরিয়ে যাও, তুমি আলবৎ অধমদের মধ্যেকার।’’		[yusufali] (Allah) said: "Get thee down from this: it is not for thee to be arrogant here: get out, for thou art of the meanest (of creatures)."
﴿١٣﴾

قَالَ أَنظِرْنِي إِلَىٰ يَوْمِ يُبْعَثُونَ [٧:١٤]

[bn.hoque] সে বললে -- ''আমাকে সময় দাও সেইদিন পর্যন্ত যখন তারা পুনরুত্থিত হবে।’’		[yusufali] He said: "Give me respite till the day they are raised up."
﴿١٤﴾

قَالَ إِنَّكَ مِنَ الْمُنظَرِينَ [٧:١٥]

[bn.hoque] তিনি বললেন -- ''বেশ, তুমি অবকাশপ্রাপ্তদের মধ্যেকার।’’		[yusufali] (Allah) said: "Be thou among those who have respite."
﴿١٥﴾

قَالَ فَبِمَا أَغْوَيْتَنِي لَأَقْعُدَنَّ لَهُمْ صِرَاطَكَ الْمُسْتَقِيمَ [٧:١٦]

[bn.hoque] সে বললে -- ''তবে তুমি যেমন আমাকে বিপথে যেতে দিয়েছ, আমিও তেমনি ওত পেতে থাকবো তাদের জন্য তোমার সহজ- সঠিক পথে।		[yusufali] He said: "Because thou hast thrown me out of the way, lo! I will lie in wait for them on thy straight way:
﴿١٦﴾

ثُمَّ لَآتِيَنَّهُم مِّن بَيْنِ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمِنْ خَلْفِهِمْ وَعَنْ أَيْمَانِهِمْ وَعَن شَمَائِلِهِمْ ۖ وَلَا تَجِدُ أَكْثَرَهُمْ شَاكِرِينَ [٧:١٧]

[bn.hoque] ''তারপর আমি আলবৎ তাদের উপরে এসে পড়বো তাদের সামনে থেকে ও তাদের পেছন থেকে, আর তাদের ডাইনে থেকে ও তাদের বামে থেকে, আর তাদের অনেককেই তুমি কৃতজ্ঞ পাবে না।’’		[yusufali] "Then will I assault them from before them and behind them, from their right and their left: Nor wilt thou find, in most of them, gratitude (for thy mercies)."
﴿١٧﴾

قَالَ اخْرُجْ مِنْهَا مَذْءُومًا مَّدْحُورًا ۖ لَّمَن تَبِعَكَ مِنْهُمْ لَأَمْلَأَنَّ جَهَنَّمَ مِنكُمْ أَجْمَعِينَ [٧:١٨]

[bn.hoque] তিনি বললেন -- ''বেরোও এখান থেকে, বেহায়া, বিতাড়িত! তাদের মধ্যের যে কেউ তোমার অনুসরণ করবে, -- আমি নিশ্চয় জাহান্নাম ভর্তি করবো তোমাদের মধ্যের সবকে দিয়ে।’’		[yusufali] (Allah) said: "Get out from this, disgraced and expelled. If any of them follow thee,- Hell will I fill with you all.
﴿١٨﴾

وَيَا آدَمُ اسْكُنْ أَنتَ وَزَوْجُكَ الْجَنَّةَ فَكُلَا مِنْ حَيْثُ شِئْتُمَا وَلَا تَقْرَبَا هَٰذِهِ الشَّجَرَةَ فَتَكُونَا مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ [٧:١٩]

[bn.hoque] আর -- ''হে আদম! তুমি ও তোমার সঙ্গিনী এই বাগানে বসবাস করো, আর যেখান থেকে তোমরা চাও আহার করো, কিন্তু এই বৃক্ষের ধারেকাছেও যেও না, তাহলে তোমরা অন্যায়কারীদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হবে।’’		[yusufali] "O Adam! dwell thou and thy wife in the Garden, and enjoy (its good things) as ye wish: but approach not this tree, or ye run into harm and transgression."
﴿١٩﴾

فَوَسْوَسَ لَهُمَا الشَّيْطَانُ لِيُبْدِيَ لَهُمَا مَا وُورِيَ عَنْهُمَا مِن سَوْآتِهِمَا وَقَالَ مَا نَهَاكُمَا رَبُّكُمَا عَنْ هَٰذِهِ الشَّجَرَةِ إِلَّا أَن تَكُونَا مَلَكَيْنِ أَوْ تَكُونَا مِنَ الْخَالِدِينَ [٧:٢٠]

[bn.hoque] তারপর শয়তান তাদের কুমন্ত্রণা দিলে যেন সে তাদের কাছে প্রকাশ করতে পারে তাদের লজ্জার বিষয়ের যা তাদের কাছে গোপন ছিল, তাই সে বললে -- ''তোমাদের প্রভু এই গাছের থেকে তোমাদের নিষেধ করেন নি এই জন্য ছাড়া যে তোমরা ফিরিশ্‌তা হয়ে যাবে কিংবা তোমরা হবে চিরজীবীদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত।’’		[yusufali] Then began Satan to whisper suggestions to them, bringing openly before their minds all their shame that was hidden from them (before): he said: "Your Lord only forbade you this tree, lest ye should become angels or such beings as live for ever."
﴿٢٠﴾

وَقَاسَمَهُمَا إِنِّي لَكُمَا لَمِنَ النَّاصِحِينَ [٧:٢١]

[bn.hoque] আর সে তাদের কাছে কসম খেলো -- ''নিঃসন্দেহ আমি তো তোমাদের জন্য সদুপদেশদাতাদের মধ্যেকার।’’		[yusufali] And he swore to them both, that he was their sincere adviser.
﴿٢١﴾

فَدَلَّاهُمَا بِغُرُورٍ ۚ فَلَمَّا ذَاقَا الشَّجَرَةَ بَدَتْ لَهُمَا سَوْآتُهُمَا وَطَفِقَا يَخْصِفَانِ عَلَيْهِمَا مِن وَرَقِ الْجَنَّةِ ۖ وَنَادَاهُمَا رَبُّهُمَا أَلَمْ أَنْهَكُمَا عَن تِلْكُمَا الشَّجَرَةِ وَأَقُل لَّكُمَا إِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ لَكُمَا عَدُوٌّ مُّبِينٌ [٧:٢٢]

[bn.hoque] এভাবে সে তাদের বিপথে চালালো প্রতারণার দ্বারা, অতঃপর তারা যখন বৃক্ষের আস্বাদ গ্রহণ করলো, তখন তাদের লজ্জা তাদের কাছে প্রকাশ পেলো, আর তারা তাদের আবৃত করতে লাগলো সেই বাগানের পাতা দিয়ে। আর তাদের প্রভু তাদের ডেকে বললেন -- ''আমি কি তোমাদের নিষেধ করি নি ঐ বৃক্ষ সন্বন্ধে, আর তোমাদের তো আমি বলেইছি যে শয়তান তোমাদের জন্য প্রকাশ্য শত্রু?’’		[yusufali] So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?"
﴿٢٢﴾

قَالَا رَبَّنَا ظَلَمْنَا أَنفُسَنَا وَإِن لَّمْ تَغْفِرْ لَنَا وَتَرْحَمْنَا لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الْخَاسِرِينَ [٧:٢٣]

[bn.hoque] তারা বললে -- ''আমাদের প্রভু! আমরা আমাদের নিজেদের প্রতি অন্যায় করেছি, আর যদি তুমি আমাদের পরিত্রাণ না করো ও আমাদের তুমি দয়া করো তাহলে আমরা নিশ্চয়ই ক্ষতিগ্রস্তদের অন্তর্ভুক্ত হয়ে যাবো।’’		[yusufali] They said: "Our Lord! We have wronged our own souls: If thou forgive us not and bestow not upon us Thy Mercy, we shall certainly be lost."
﴿٢٣﴾

قَالَ اهْبِطُوا بَعْضُكُمْ لِبَعْضٍ عَدُوٌّ ۖ وَلَكُمْ فِي الْأَرْضِ مُسْتَقَرٌّ وَمَتَاعٌ إِلَىٰ حِينٍ [٧:٢٤]

[bn.hoque] তিনি বললেন -- '' তোমরা অধঃপাতে যাও। তোমাদের কেউ কেউ অন্য কারোর শত্রু। আর তোমাদের জন্য পৃথিবীতে রয়েছে জিরানোর স্থান ও কিছু সময়ের জন্য সংস্থান।’’		[yusufali] (Allah) said: "Get ye down. With enmity between yourselves. On earth will be your dwelling-place and your means of livelihood,- for a time."
﴿٢٤﴾

قَالَ فِيهَا تَحْيَوْنَ وَفِيهَا تَمُوتُونَ وَمِنْهَا تُخْرَجُونَ [٧:٢٥]

[bn.hoque] তিনি বললেন -- ''এইখানেই তোমরা জীবন যাপন করবে, আর এতেই তোমরা মৃত্যু বরণ করবে, আর এরই মধ্য থেকে তোমাদের পুনরুত্থিত করা হবে।’’		[yusufali] He said: "Therein shall ye live, and therein shall ye die; but from it shall ye be taken out (at last)."
﴿٢٥﴾

We imagine when Allah the Almighty decided to create Adam: He addressed His angels and told them to prostrate before him. He did not mean to ask their opinion or take their advice, for He is above that. Allah the Exalted told them that He was going to create a vicegerent on the earth who would have children and grandchildren who would corrupt the earth and shed each other's blood.

That is why the angels said to Allah the Almighty: "Will You place therein those who will make

mischief therein and shed blood!" (Chapter 2:30 Quran).

There are old traditions about the angels before the creation of Adam. According to Ibn Qatadah,

it was said that the angels were informed about the creation of Adam(PBUH) and his progency by the jinn who lived before Adam. Abdullah Ibn Umar(RA) said that the jinn had existed for about 2000 years before Adam and then shed blood. Therefore Allah sent on them an army of angels that drove them out to the depths of the seas. Ibn Abi Hatim narrated from Ali jafar Al Baqer that the angels were informed that man would cause wickedness and shed blood on earth. It was also said that they knew that no one would be created on earth who would not be wicked and shed blood. Whether or not these traditions are correct, the angels did understand that Allah would create a vicegerent on earth. Allah the Almighty announced that HE was going to create a human being out of clay, that HE would mold him and blow His spirit into him and then the angels should prostrate before him.

Abi Musa al ASha'arai(RA) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Allah created Adam from a handful of dust taken from different lands, so the children of Adam have been created according to the composition of the land. Therefore from mankind we have white, red, black and yellow ones; we have good and evil, ease and sorrow, and what comes in between them." (Sahih al Bukhari).

Ibn Masud(RA) and other companions of the Prophet (PBUH) said that Allah the Almighty sent Gabriel onto the earth to get Him clay there from. The earth said: "I seek refuge in Allah from your decreasing my quantity or disfiguring me." So Gabriel returned and did not take anything. He said: "My Lord, the land sought refuge in YOU and it granted." So Allah sent Michael for the same purpose, and the land sought refuge with Allah and it was granted. So he went back and said to Allah what Gabriel has said before him. Then Allah sent the Angel of Death, and the land sought refuge in Allah, the angel said: "I also seek refuge with Allah from returning without carrying out His command." So he took clay from the face of the earth

and mixed it. He did not take from one particular place, but rather he took white, red, and black clay from different places. The Angel of Death ascended with it, Allah soaked the clay till it became sticky.

Then Allah said to the angels: (Chapter 38,SAD:71-72 ).

إِذْ قَالَ رَبُّكَ لِلْمَلَائِكَةِ إِنِّي خَالِقٌ بَشَرًا مِّن طِينٍ [٣٨:٧١]

[bn.hoque] স্মরণ করো! তোমার প্রভু ফিরিশ্‌তাদের বললেন -- ''আমি নিশ্চয়ই কাদা থেকে মানুষ সৃষ্টি করতে যাচ্ছি।		[yusufali] Behold, thy Lord said to the angels: "I am about to create man from clay:
﴿٧١﴾

فَإِذَا سَوَّيْتُهُ وَنَفَخْتُ فِيهِ مِن رُّوحِي فَقَعُوا لَهُ سَاجِدِينَ [٣٨:٧٢]

[bn.hoque] ''তারপর আমি যখন তাকে সুঠাম করব এবং আমার রূহ্ থেকে তাতে দম দেব তখন তার প্রতি সিজদাবনত হয়ে লুটিয়ে পড়ো।’’		[yusufali] "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him."

So Allah shaped Adam into a human being, but he remained a figure of clay for fourty years. The angels went past him. They were seized with fear by what they saw, and Iblis felt fear most. He used to pass by the figure of Adam, buffeting it, which would make a sound like pottery.

Allah told us:

"He created man (Adam) from sounding clay like the clay of pottery." (Chapter 55:Quran).

When the time drew near to breathe the spirit into Adam, as Allah decreed, He commanded the angels: "When I breathe My spirit into him prostrate before him." Allah breathed His spirit into Adam and when it reached his head Adam sneezed. The angels said: "Say all praise belongs to Allah." Adam repeated: "All praise belongs to Allah." Allah said to him: "Your Lord has granted you mercy." When the spirit reached his eyes, Adam looked at the fruits of Paradise. When it reached his abdomen Adam felt an appetite for food. He jumped hurriedly before the spirit could reach his legs, so that he could eat from the fruits of Paradise.

Allah, therefore, said:

"Man is created of haste." (Chapter 21:37 Quran).

And then:

"The angels prostrated themselves all of them together. Except Iblis, he refused to be among the prostrators. (Ch 15:31-32 Quran).

Abu Hurairah narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: "Allah created Adam from dust after He mixed the clay and left him for some time until it became sticky mud, after which Allah shaped him. After that Allah left him till it became like potter's clay. Iblis used to go past him saying 'You have been created for a great purpose.' After that Allah breathed His spirit into him. The first thing into which the spirit passed was his eye and then his nose. He sneezed. Allah said: "May your Lord have mercy upon you, O Adam! Go to those angels and see what they would say.' So Adam went and greeted them. they replied saying: "Peace be upon you and the mercy and blessings of Allah." Allah said: "O Adam! This is your greeting and that of your offspring." (Sahih al Bukhari).
