So you’re still
following your guide. You see a huge tree; you ask your guide what it is. He
tells you that this tree was described by the Prophet sallallahu ‘alayhi wa
sallam (in Bukhaari), “There is a tree in Paradise (which is so big and huge
that) a rider could travel in its shade for a hundred years. And if you wish,
you can recite: ‘In shade long extended’ (56:30) and a place in Paradise equal
to an arrow bow of one of you, is better than (the whole earth) on which the
sun rises and sets.” [Bukhaari, 4/54/475]
Then you go to
other places and see other trees. The trees look very different. There are
trees with all silver branches, all gold branches, some that produce fruit,
some that produce clothes…etc etc…
Your guide will
also show you Sidratul-Muntaha. The Prophet sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam saw
this tree when he went to Jannah. In a hadith, [see Muslim, 1/309], the Prophet
sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam said: “Then I was taken to Sidrat-ul-Muntaha whose
leaves were like elephant ears and its fruit like big earthenware vessels. And
when it was covered by the Command of Allah, it underwent such a change that
none amongst the creation has the power to praise its beauty.”
Once, RasulAllah
sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam was speaking about Jannah. A man asked RasulAllah,
“O Messenger of Allah, are the clothes of Jannah created or are they woven?”
The Sahabah laughed; they thought it was a stupid question. The Prophet
sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam asked, Why are you laughing? Are you laughing
because he is ignorant and he is asking somebody who knows? In other words,
RasulAllah was saying that there is no question that is stupid. RasulAllah told
the man, The clothes of Jannah come out from the trees of Jannah.
Now you are
wearing these clothes of Jannah and you go to these trees. You just point
towards a fruit from the tree and get a new pair of clothes. You get a few new
pairs of clothes. Of course, your wife will get more, obviously she’ll take a
lot of clothes. You move on and obviously you don’t have to carry them – one of
the servants will have a shopping cart and will carry them.
You’ll go to
another tree and it will have some oranges. The servant will ask, do you want
some oranges? You’ll say, no, I just had oranges a few days ago. The servant
will say, I’ll give you some more because these oranges are different. So you
grab one of these huge oranges and taste it – it tastes different! And every
orange that you have tastes better than the one before.
Allah says:
“Every time they are fed with fruits there from, they say: ‘Why, this is what
we were fed with before,’ for they are given things in similitude.” (2:25) You
can see how picky the people of Jannah become; they don’t want to have the same
food again. They will realize that it only gets better.
RasulAllah
sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam says in a hadith in at-Tirmidhi, the trees of
paradise, the branches and the trunk of it, are made of gold.
